Thank you to King’s Independent Grocer

Last Updated on December 31, 2024

The Richmond Food Bank would like to extend an extra special thank you to Chris King and King’s Independent Grocer for their on-going support. Chris and his staff go above and beyond to assist the Richmond Food Bank in our day-to-day operations.

King’s facilitates food drives on our behalf in partnership with Loblaws and Food Banks Canada and they run their own “Give a little, help a lot” food drive with all the funds raised going to the Richmond Food Bank. King’s also prepared hundreds of bags with much needed food items for our latest food drive this December.

The Richmond Food Bank partnered with King’s as part of Food Banks Canada’s Retail Food Program in November 2022, which allows King’s to donate any products that would not get placed on their shelves due to damaged packaging or overstocking. This program helps get food into the hands of our clients and reduces waste at the grocery store. In 2024, King’s donated the equivalent of 3,675 lbs of non-perishable food and 150 lbs of non-food items (such as pet food and personal hygiene items).

Starting in July 2024, King’s began donating frozen meat and fish each Saturday morning, which is immediately put into the hands of our clients. We have received the equivalent of over 3,300 lbs of meat and fish over the past 7 months. This new support has helped our clients tremendously.

In addition to ordering and storing all the fresh food we purchase for seasonal hampers, King’s also handles our orders for non-perishable food throughout the year, so that we can keep our shelves stocked. They even stored turkeys for our recent winter hampers that had been donated by Cardel Homes!

Please join us in showing our thanks to Chris and all the staff at King’s Independent Grocer. We greatly appreciate all that you do for us.
